The Tollhouse

Wow ! This really is a gem of a food venue ! We were a group of 3 adults looking for a delicious freshly cooked meal and this did not disappoint . I can’t believe how good value this was , originally we were going to have the main menu but then realised that most of the items we wanted were on the fixed menu which was a complete bargain for the food offered. From arriving into the venue to each drink and meal as it arrived was perfect The onion and Parmesan soup was the tastiest soup we have had for a long while. We each had different mains from the chicken , fish and a vegetarian risotto, we all tried each dish and everyone of them was packed full of flavour and presented beautifully . As the first two courses were such a hit we actually all decided on dessert/ cheese selections, these did not disappoint and were fresh and tasty. We all had clean plates for each meal and the bottle of red we had between us was the perfect accompaniment. We would happily come back to sample more fresh food on our future visits to Edinburgh. Perfect last evening for our trip . Thank you for such a great service!

This is a gem featuring Scottish cuisine at its best. After visiting the Water of Leith and the Botanical garden, we ended up having the best meal of this Edinburgh trip. From starter, main and dessert, everything on the table bring joy to the mouth and smile to the face. We are from Montreal where the city is famous for all European cuisines. After the meal, I passed by the kitchen and told the chef that Montreal needs a Tollhouse. I wonder if my wish will come truth someday.

Went here for a Sunday roast lunch deal. The service was excellent. Very attentive and obliging. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. A little disappointed there wasn't a vegetarian roast option. My friend had the aubergine and said it was little soggy, as she put it but the bulgar wheat with it was really good. As for the traditional roast it was nice to have the vegetables blanched/hard rather than soft but it may not be to everyone's preference. Would definitely recommend trying out the duck leg rillettes and the sticky toffee pudding. They also do a good cappuccino and hot chocolate. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

On 23rd June 2025, my wife booked our Sunday lunch at this restaurant. I felt all staff were very good. All our ordered cuisines were very good. The restaurant was very comfortable. My wife’s choice was very good. I look forward to visiting again soon with my wife. Thank you!

Faultless and amazing quality. Everything tasted fresh and was well balanced the lemon dessert cake was outstanding. Lovely view of Leith waters and greenery.

First proper meal at Edinburgh, The Tollhouse, lunch by the river, the cosy vibe coupled with the immaculate service is the reason for this to be our first stop, starters were not bad, prawns could be made better, more crunchy, mains were average, steak is acceptable but the fries was good. You can skip the desserts. Overall, it is very comfortable place for friends gathering with fantastic service but quality of the food are just average

Very impressed with the place and got ourselves an itison voucher which was just great. It covered a Sunday roast three course meal for a couple including a glass of prosecco. The service at the Tollhouse was outstanding and the staff were very good. Highly recommend the place and will surely be going back once again

A fantastic evening meal! The venison Ragu, baked coley and ribeye were all exceptional, as was the sticky toffee pudding too. The service was superb throughout too, and for such a good experience, the price was more than reasonable!
